About Approach Training
Approach Training has provided courses for 20+ years and is based on the concept of team work, with the service user as a part of that team. The safe and supportive techniques enable service users with challenging behaviour to access education and care, at home or within services. Some of these service users will have learning difficulties, some will be on the Autistic Spectrum, others will have a history of abuse or come from dysfunctional or violent families and homes.
For many of these service users, their challenging behaviour is how they have learned to survive and get their needs met. Our challenge is to help them to learn better ways and the vast majority of incidents should be concluded without the need for a physical intervention. However, there are times when it will be necessary to support a service user and it is important that staff know how to do this safely and that services users can be confident that they will be supported in a safe and ethical manner, with dignity and respect.
Approach Training works with the natural movement of the body so that staff do not have to rely on power and strength, but instead use proven effective techniques. Approach Training is used in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, care homes, schools – mainstream and special, social services settings, foster carers and parents. Approach Training has even received favourable comments from the likes of Ofsted during school inspections.
Our Objectives

To equip staff with additional knowledge and skills so that they are able to fulfil their daily duties in a confident, safe and non-judgmental manner

To enable staff to be confident in using good interpersonal skills, knowledge and adoption of positive attitude to care

To enable staff to assess and manage disruptive behaviour incorporating the use of teamwork, knowledge of natural movement and cushions of the body, which in turn supports the movement through isolating and supportive holds

To build self-confidence, and to encourage staff to support and underpin the confidence of colleagues. We must remember that asking a colleague for help is a strength NOT a weakness.

To minimise the risk to individuals and staff when dealing with a variety of challenging situations by incorporating Health and Safety requirements.
